Games

Collect gems by shooting a beam of energy. Manipulate the curve of the beam by adjusting the coefficients to the mathematical equation that define the curve. Collect sparks to power the beam, use disruptors to clear obstacles in its path, and portals to extract gems stuck in the vortex. Play 100 levels of increasing difficulty over 5 gorgeous worlds.

xPonum is a beautiful puzzle game in which players collect gems using a beam of energy. Game play emphasizes exploration, so that players experience mathematics as being about trying out various ideas, not just about already having the answer. At the most basic level, in the first world, players use slope and intercepts and must find points along the line, using the slider to shift the line. This level can be played in an introductory algebra class. At later levels, players explore shifts in parabolas, cubic and trigonometric functions, which are suitable as pre-calculus topics.

Designed in collaboration with CUNY, xPonum is used as part of the algebra and pre-calculus classes. xPonum is available for free for the iPad at the App Store.
